Buying Coffee at The Roasterie for the First Time?
Welcome to the Roasterie. Picking up your first bag of coffee from us is a little ritual in itself. Whether it’s your first visit or your fortieth, we want to make it smooth and enjoyable.
Start Small
We roast a wide range of coffees.
From the bright, floral notes of Ethiopia Yirgacheffe Aramo to the sweet, nutty tones of Bolivia Teoponte, there’s a flavour for everyone. You can buy as little as 100 grams to try something new.
If you’re looking for more than 3 pounds of a single type, give us a heads-up. Either order online for pickup or call ahead. We roast in small batches, about 5 pounds at a time, so it’s best to check before buying a lot at once. That way, you get your coffee fresh, every time, as much you need.
Choosing Your Coffee
Take a look at our online menu for tasting notes. Or come in and ask one of our roasters for recommendations. We always encourage you to smell the coffee before you buy. There’s nothing like opening a few-minutes-ago roasted coffee and letting the aroma fill the room. Sometimes, a new batch just comes out of the roaster while you’re here. That cracking and smell alone can make a visit memorable.

Storing Tips
Coffee’s best days are short. Whole beans stay fresh longer than pre-ground coffee. Once roasted, store your beans in a sealed container with a vacuum lid. Place it in a cupboard or a kitchen shelf. Avoid sunlight, heat, and open air.
If you’re travelling with your coffee, pack the bag inside a ziplock. It protects against leaks and keeps the beans safe in your suitcase.
Grind only a small amount, just enough what you need for your morning coffee. Grinding more at once lets flavour escape before you brew. Also! Skip the freezer or fridge. Condensation ruins taste, and beans will pick up other smells. (No, thank you.)
Make It Your Own
Once you’ve got your bag home, it’s time to explore. Try different brews, tweak your grind size, or switch between roasts. Some favourites at the Roasterie right now include:
- Sulawesi Toraja – chocolate, black grape, fig, melon, good body
- India Mysore – our only light roast here, subtle sweetness, punchy creaminess
- Cuban Caracolillo – a rich dark roast, smokey and tobacco hints
Each brew reveals something new. Aeropress, drip, French press, espresso, every method shows a different side of the coffee. Experiment a little and see what feels right for your taste and your morning ritual.

Buying Coffee as a Gift
If you’re buying coffee as a gift, but aren’t sure what to choose, don’t worry. Start by thinking about the person you’re giving it to. Try to find out subtly what they like.
Do they prefer fruity or nutty flavours?
Dark roast or medium?
Do they drink coffee mostly in the morning, or in the afternoon?
Do they have a grinder at home?
If you know the answers, we can guide you to the perfect roast. If you have no clue, that’s fine too. We’ll recommend a few of our crowd pleasers, and usually sell them as whole beans, we don't recommend pre-ground. Once coffee is ground, it’s hard to adjust if the grind doesn’t match their machine. No worries if the recipient prefers a different grind later. They can bring it back, and we’ll grind their beans custom for them. We even have little cards you can add to the gift, with space for a personal message. It’s an easy way to make your coffee gift feel extra thoughtful.

A Little Roasterie Care
Every bag we sell is roasted here with care. We roast small batches to keep freshness at its peak. When you take your coffee home, you literally bring a bit of the Roasterie with you. Customers often tell us that after a visit, their clothes and hair smell faintly of coffee from being here. Some say that when they ride home on the CTrain, their bag or backpack smells so good that fellow passengers ask what’s making it smell like that. It’s a little reminder of our roastery and the care we put into every batch.
