Colombia Finca Anei Coffee

A Sweet and Juicy Coffee from the Sierra Nevada

Some coffees wake you up.

This one makes you slow down for a minute.

Our Colombia Finca Anei is sweet, juicy, and wonderfully balanced. You will taste soft caramel sweetness, a round body, and a gentle nutty finish that keeps you coming back for another sip.

Really good Colombian coffee.

If you are looking for freshly roasted Colombian coffee in Calgary, this is an easy one to love.

Grown in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta

This coffee comes from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in northern Colombia.
It is one of the most remarkable coffee regions in the world.
The mountains rise straight from the Caribbean coast to snow-covered peaks nearly 5,700 metres high. In fact, it is the highest coastal mountain range on Earth.

You can be standing in warm tropical weather and looking up at snow.

That sounds like Alberta in June.

Coffee is grown on the lower slopes between 900 and 1,600 metres above sea level. Our Finca Anei lot comes from farms sitting between 1,200 and 1,500 metres.

Farming on Seriously Steep Hillsides

The farms in this region are built on mountain slopes with inclines of 50 to 80 degrees.
That is steep.
Picking coffee here is demanding work. Every ripe cherry is harvested by hand, and moving baskets up and down these hills is not for the faint of heart.

There is no machinery doing the heavy lifting.
Only hard work and a lot of experience.

What This Region Produces

The Sierra Nevada is incredibly fertile.

Along with coffee, farmers also grow:

  • Cacao
  • Bananas
  • Avocados
  • Sugar cane
  • Citrus fruits

This diversity helps support local families and keeps the land healthy.

Meet ANEI

This coffee comes from ANEI, an organization of more than 800 Indigenous and farming families in northern Colombia.
The group includes Arhuaco, Kogui, Wiwa, and Kankuamo communities, along with local producers. ANEI was founded in 1995 and focuses on organic agriculture, fair trade, and protecting both cultural traditions and the environment.
The name “ANEI” means “delicious” in the Ikʉ language.

A confident name, but they have earned it.

Coffee and the Local Economy

Coffee is a major source of income for families in the Sierra Nevada.

By working with ANEI, farmers gain access to better prices, export markets, technical support, and community programs.

The organization reinvests in education, sustainability, and projects that strengthen local communities.

So yes, your morning coffee is doing more than just helping you function before 8 a.m.

We Know These Producers Personally

One of the things we value most at The Roasterie is building direct relationships with the people behind the coffee.
We have met the team from ANEI in person at coffee expo in the States, and Lech has visited the estated himself as well.

That face-to-face connection gives us a deeper appreciation for the work they do and the care they put into every harvest.

We love getting to know the producers whose coffees we roast and share with our customers in Calgary.
It makes every cup feel a little more meaningful.

What “Sierra Nevada” Means

“Sierra Nevada” translates to “snow-covered mountain range.”

A fitting name for a place where tropical forests, coffee farms, and snowy peaks all exist in the same landscape.

Colombia was clearly showing off when it named this one.

Harvest Season

The main harvest in this region runs from September to December.

During harvest, farmers pick only ripe cherries by hand. This careful selection helps create the sweet, clean flavours that Colombian coffees are known for.

Caturra and Castillo

Our Colombia Finca Anei is made from two classic Colombian varieties.

Caturra
Caturra is known for its sweetness and clean cup profile.

Castillo
Castillo was developed in Colombia for disease resistance and excellent quality.
Together, they produce a coffee that is smooth, sweet, and consistently delicious.

What This Coffee Tastes Like

Coffees from the Sierra Nevada tend to be rounder and fuller-bodied than coffees from some other parts of Colombia.

They are less bright and more comforting.
That is exactly what you get here.

Expect:

  • Juicy sweetness
  • Soft caramel notes
  • A smooth, rounded body
  • Gentle nuttiness in the finish

It is the kind of coffee that disappears quickly, and somehow your mug is empty before you were ready.

How to Brew It

This coffee shines in:

  • Drip coffee makers
  • Pour over
  • French press
  • Espresso

A Fun Fact About the Sierra Nevada

The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta is isolated from the Andes, which has allowed many plant and animal species to evolve there and nowhere else in the world.

Your morning coffee comes from one of the most unique ecosystems on the planet.

Not bad for something sitting beside your toast.

Why We Love This Coffee

It is genuinely enjoyable.
